Lopsided Christians

In my post yesterday [The 'Trend' of Service], I suggested that  the  current ‘in’ form of faith expression, on the campus I serve, is — far and away — service.

I’ve been on a number of other campuses over the past 18 years (including my own undergraduate experience), and have seen contexts where worship or small group involvement or service have seemed to be the ‘popular’ thing to do…

But I can’t say that I remember ever experiencing a well-integrated, balanced ministry environment.  A place where young Christians are involved in equal, and appropriate, levels of worship, discipleship AND outreach.

And so I find myself wondering…

  • Is it our ministries? Are we providing the kinds of experiences for our students that lead to healthy, well-balanced believers?  Or lopsided Christians?  Is there more we can be doing?
  • Is it our students? Are our students willing to put forth the necessary amounts of time and energy needed to become healthy, growing believers?
  • Is it something else?

What do you think???

Great insight!  I agree for the need to BALANCE.  We need to have service flow out from a heart of overflow from our intimacy and heart of worship with God.  Otherwise we are putting the cart in front of the horse.  God wants to raise up a generation of those who will worship him in Spirit and in Truth.  From that, all the disciplines should flow….service being ONE of those disciplines.  Just my two cents.  But worth at least a nickel.
